Wolverines Ground Eagles in Physical Affair

The San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team held off a late charge by Mt. San Jacinto to come away with a 74-60 victory in a testy affair that included four player technical fouls and the ejection of Mt. San Jacinto coach Patrick Springer.

The two teams traded leads early in the game, with the Wolverines going on an 8-2 run midway through the first to take a seven point lead that they would still hold at the half.

Things heated up in the second, as both sides got physical, with all six of the game's technical fouls being given in the second 20 minutes.

The Wolverines weren't able to put together a sustained run in the second half, but did extend the lead to as much as 17 points. But the Eagles were spurred on after the ejection of their coach, cutting the lead back to six, before the Wolverines were able to right the ship.

A key for the Wolverines was their free throw shooting. With both teams in the bonus early in the second half, San Bernardino Valley made 82.4 percent of their shots from the line, while the Eagles only converted 55.2 percent of their shots.

Chris Johnson led the Wolverines with 15 points, while Chidi Udengwu chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds. Logan Koch was 4-for-4 from the field off the bench, finishing with 11 points thanks to three 3-pointers.

Mt. San Jacinto was led by A.J. Walton and Davon Sanders, who had 13 apiece.
