Wolverines Use Early Run to Cruise in First Round of Hunter Classic

The San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team had four players score in double figures as the Wolverines cruised to a 77-44 victory over Grossmont in the opening round of the Alvin Hunter Classic at SBVC.

Craig LeCesne and Kevin McNeal had 13 points apiece, while Chris Johnson and Kendall Lauderdale had 12 each as the Woverines (4-0) opened a big first half lead against the Griffins (3-2).

The Wolverines opened the game on a 15-0 run, and never looked back, leading at the half by 14. Grossmont scored the first two baskets of the second half to get back within 10, but the Wolverines scored the next 14 put the game back out of reach.

The Wolverines will play in the championship semifinals at 7 p.m. against East Los Angeles College.

In other Hunter Classic games:

East Los Angeles 93, Riverside City College 71: Frank Bertz had 20 points to lead East Los Angeles to the victory. Riverside's Brae Ivey was the game's leading scorer, with 23 points.

West Los Angeles 74, Mt. San Jacinto 58: The Wildcats got 20 points from Corey Jackson as they beat the Eagles in a hard-fought game. Davon Sanders had 15 to lead the Eagles.

Antelope Valley 90, Cal Miramar University 68: The Marauders used a balanced attack, with four players scoring in double figures, to knock off the NAIA school's junior varsity team.
