SBVC Men’s Basketball will host #18 Owls tonight in SoCal Quarterfinals

Under the tutelage of eighth-year coach Quincy Brewer, #2 seeded SBVC Men's Basketball ended the 2015-2016 season claiming their 15th Conference championship, the Foothill Conference Coach of the Year award and the MVP award was handed to sophomore guard Perris Hicks.

Brewer was awarded for the fifth time as Coach of the Year finishing the regular season, ranked fourth in the state with a 28-3 overall record and a 9-1 conference record, wrapping up the regular season winning 17 of their final 18 games. They were rewarded with the 2 seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

SBVC will face off with a Citrus team that finished the regular season with a record of 15-13, the Owls ended the 2015-16 season in third place in the Western State Conference-South Division (WSC-South) with a record of 8-6. The Owls started the season 6-4, and have won 7 of their last 10 games. Citrus also collected a substantial amount of All-Conference awards including, 1st team All-WSC-South for freshman guard Kenneth Cyprian (Chino Hills H.S.) and sophomore guard Mark Williams (Chino Hills H.S.), and 2nd team All- WSC-South for sophomore guard Jordan McNellys (Rancho Cucamonga H.S.) and sophomore guard Caleb Richey (Santa Barbara Bishop Diego).

The Owls finished the 2014-15 season second in the Western State Conference-South Division with a record of 9-5, with an overall record of 16-11. Citrus was most recently in the playoffs in the 2014-15 season entering the Southern California Regional's as the 10th seed, the Owls lost at Mt. San Jacinto in the SoCal Quarterfinals, 87-69. Citrus is coached by Patrick Johnson in his first season.

SBVC first played Citrus Owls in 1927 and has a 72-60 overall record versus the Owls, and SBVC has a 37-24 record at home. The last time SBVC and Citrus met in the post-season was March 3, 2012 for a shot at the State Finals, SBVC fell at Citrus, 94-89.

Men's Basketball sophomore guard Perris Hicks (Pasadena H.S.) was selected the Foothill Conference Most Valuable Player, starting 29 regular season games for SBVC while averaging 21.4 points per game, finishing second in the state in minutes and shooting 91.4% from the free throw line in Conference play. Hicks was named second team all-Foothill Conference for the 2014-15 season.

Men's basketball freshman forward Brandon Jolley (Pasadena H.S.), sophomore forward JaCardo Hawkins (Gonzales (LA) East Ascension), sophomore guard Zack Rollins (Westchester (NY) Pelham Memorial) and freshman guard Robert Lewis (Compton H.S.) were all named first team all-Foothill Conference.

Jolly averaged 18.9 points per game and grabbed 199 total rebounds, shooting 86.7% from the free throw line, along with 107 assists and 31 blocks. His season high was 32 points at Victor Valley on February 3rd.

Hawkins averaged 13.2 points per game and grabbed 243 total rebounds, shooting 75% from the free throw line, along with 38 blocks. His season high was 24 points vs. Glendale (AZ) at the Garcia Tip-Off Tournament at College of the Desert on November 7th.

Rollins averaged 11.5 points per game and led the team in 3-point shooting percentage with 43.1% (47-109) and free throw shooting percentage with 83.3% (40-48). His season high was 27 points at home versus College of the Desert on February 6th.

 Lewis averaged 11.3 points per game and grabbed 102 total rebounds, shooting 76.7% (56-73) from the free throw line, along with 78 assists. His season high was 21 points at home versus Rio Hondo on January 27th.

The winner of tonight's game will face the #7 Lancaster Antelope Valley Marauders on Wednesday, March 2nd, game starts at 7 p.m.
