SBVC Men’s Basketball wallops the Vikings after slow start, 89-69

SBVC (22-2; 3-0) put together a solid performance, but not until a few late defensive adjustments did the home side really get going in another Conference victory over the Barstow Vikings (6-13; 2-1), 89-69.

SBVC had a hard time throughout the game gaining some distance on the above average Vikings, who took a 2-point lead, 58-56, with 7:45 left in the game. But once SBVC changed their defensive arrangement, putting a different guard on a red hot shooting Barstow guard the game changed, and SBVC went on a 30-3 run over the next five minutes.

Four of the five starters for SBVC were in double figures for the afternoon, with sophomore guard Zack Rollins (Westchester (NY) Pelham Memorial) leading the way for SBVC with 21 points on 6 of 9 shooting, going 6 of 7 from the free throw line and was 3 of 5 from beyond the arc.

Freshman guard Robert Lewis (Compton H.S.) added 20 points on 7 of 13 shooting, going 3 of 8 from three-point range and dishing out six assists and sophomore forward JaCardo Hawkins (Gonzales (LA) East Ascension) would lead the team with nine boards, putting up eight points.

Sophomore guard Perris Hicks (Pasadena H.S.) contributed 14 points on 5 of 13 shooting, going 4 of 11 from beyond the arc, adding two steals and freshman forward Brandon Jolley (Pasadena H.S.) had 12 points, going 6 for 6 from the charity stripe. Freshman guard Ja Morgan (Las Vegas (NV) Palo Verde) led the team with 8 assists in the win.
