SBVC Men’s Basketball continues winning streak, passing the Rams, 87-73

SBVC (20-2; 1-0) took their #3 state ranking into the Foothill Conference opener and added to their 9 game winning streak, grabbing the win over the Victorville Victor Valley Rams (6-13; 0-1), 87-73.

SBVC added to their 9 game winning streak, collecting an overall record against the Rams of 55-6, and a 30-2 record at home against Victor Valley.

The game was a great deal closer than many expected, but after the game was tied at 20-20 halfway through the first half, SBVC took the lead on a steal and monster dunk by sophomore forward JaCardo Hawkins (Gonzales (LA) East Ascension) got the home side back on the right track. SBVC would never trail the rest of the contest.

SBVC could never really shake the Rams, as the visitors were within three points, 71-68, with 4:35 left in the game, but that is as close as they would get. After a pair of free throws by freshman forward Brandon Jolley (Pasadena H.S.) the game started to go lopsided very quickly, as SBVC would go on a 14-0 run to finish the game.

All five starters were in double figures as Hawkins grabbed his seventh double-double of the season with 20 points on 9 of 11 shooting and 14 boards and Jolley led all scorers with 25 points on 7 of 13 shooting, going 11 for 12 from the free throw line, along with 2 blocks.

Sophomore guard Perris Hicks (Pasadena H.S.) added 13 points on 4 of 9 shooting, leading the team in assists with 7 and freshman guard Robert Lewis (Compton H.S.) also had 13 points on 4 of 10 shooting, going a perfect 3 for 3 from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Zack Rollins (Westchester (NY) Pelham Memorial) contributed 10 points on 4 of 6 shooting in the victory.
