Nickles and Safeties Coach

Coach Bobby Hosea returned to San Bernardino Valley College to coach the team’s safeties. Coach Hosea had previously played at San Bernardino Valley from 1974-75 and was a coach on the 1982 State Championship team.
He left Valley for UCLA, where he was the starting right cornerback for two seasons with the Bruins. After graduation, he went on to play five seasons of professional football, playing for the Montreal Alouettes and Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League and for the Los Angeles Express and Jacksonville Bulls of the United States Football League.
He returned to Valley as coach in 1982, helping the team to its first state championship. After leaving coaching full-time, Hosea became an actor, racking up more than 75 credits on shows and more than 200 national commercials, including China Beach, 24, CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: New York and NCIS. He also starred as O.J. Simpson in the television movie “The O.J. Simpson Story,” and as convicted sniper John Allen Muhammad in the television movie “D.C. Sniper: 23 Days of Fear.”
But football has remained close to his heart. When his son began tackle football in 1997, he developed a helmet-free tackle system to help curtail concussions, by teaching players a safe way to tackle without using the crown of their head. He started the Train ‘Em Up Academy, teaching players and coaches a safer way of tackling, reducing the amount of concussions a player might suffer by leading with their head. He has implemented this system with students at Valley.
