SBVC Secures Championship Bowl Berth after win in Desert

With a piece of the Mountain Division championship already sewn up, the San Bernardino Valley College football team knew all it needed was a win over College of the Desert Saturday night to secure a trip to a bowl game for the second year in a row.

The Wolverines took care of business against the Roadrunners, beating COD 38-0, and were rewarded with a return trip to the American Championship Bowl. But this time, it won't be a trip - it will be a home game.

San Bernardino Valley College (9-1) will host its first bowl game in known history, as it will take on Chaffey College (9-0) at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.

Against College of the Desert, the Wolverines' Death Valley Defense made life for the SBVC offense easy. The defense recorded four takeaways - including interceptions from Jaiden Roe, Claude Dent and Shaylan Lewis - and the special teams squad added a score, as Cobe Stribling returned a punt 80 yards for a score. Desert only recorded 135 yards of total offense in the game.

Meanwhile, the offense took care of its business. David Schmucker took the bulk of the snaps at quarterback, and he threw for 137 yards and four scores to four different receivers. The Wolverines started eight drives in the COD end of the field - and a ninth at midfield.

The American Championship Bowl will take place at 6 p.m. Nov. 23 at SBVC Stadium. Tickets for the game are $12 for general admission and $8 for students with current school ID, faculty and staff, seniors 60 and older and children 12 and younger.  The box office will be open on game day.
