The San Bernardino Valley College football team picked up its sixth win in a row Saturday night, but it may have come at a cost.
Quarterback Jeremy Moussa left the game early in the third quarter, and an injury to Victor Valley's Andrew Soriano cast a pall over the rest of the proceedings, as the Wolverines beat the Rams 50-12 at SBVC Stadium.
San Bernardino jumped on the Rams from the opening kickoff. After winning the coin toss and deferring, kicker Ben Falck dribbled a kick up the middle of the field that caught the Rams off guard, allowing the Wolverines to recover the ball at midfield. On the first play from there, Moussa pitched the ball to Darrell Turner Jr., who threw a pass down field to a wide open Dionzae Nolan II, who went down the far sideline for the score, just 12 seconds into the game.
The defense then helped the offense with great field position on the next drive, as Jess Ybarra sacked VVC quarterback Austin Shriver for an 11-yard loss to the VVC 15 on the Rams' opening drive. Starting from the Rams' 45, the Wolverines took four plays to find the end zone, as Moussa hit Tate Pringle. Falck's kick made it 13-0.
Victor Valley started putting pressure on the Wolverines' offensive line, throwing off the SBVC offense, but the Rams could not solve the Death Valley Defense. The Rams did not gain a first down until its fifth drive, which came in the second quarter. The first down helped spur the Rams to their first score, as wildcat quarterback Ariki Boggan caught the SBVC defense off guard, throwing the ball down field to Darius Allen, who outran the defense for a 79-yard score to make it 13-6.
But that just woke up the SBVC offense. The Wolverines scored on their next three possessions, going into the half with a 33-6 lead.
On the Wolverines' second possession, Moussa was sacked by Logan Graham, leading to his removal from the game. Dorian Wilson came into the game, and led the Wolverines down field, where Falck nailed a 26-yard field goal to extend the lead. Then on the second play of the ensuing drive, Andrew Sorensen sacked Shriver, who lost the ball on the way down. Jhalen Haynes picked the ball up and returned it 20 yards for a score.
Moussa left the game completing 17 of 28 passes for 235 yards and four touchdowns, while Wilson was 3-for-7 for 83 yards and a score.
Meanwhile, the SBVC defense held the Rams to only eight first downs and only 158 yards of total offense. The Wolverines also intercepted a pass and picked up three VVC fumbles. The Wolverines were credited with three sacks and 12 tackles for losses.
