For the second week in a row, the San Bernardino Valley College football team took on an undefeated team.
And for the second week in a row, the Wolverines' opponent walked out with its first loss.
The Wolverines jumped out to a 20-0 halftime lead and shut down the Citrus offense throughout the second half to score a 41-19 victory at SBVC Stadium, taking control of the American Conference Mountain Division race.
SBVC's quick strike offense got the Wolverines on the board on the game's first drive. It took SBVC five plays to get to the Citrus end zone, capped off by a 39-yard pass play from Jeremy Moussa to Tyzjon Calhoun-Fuller. Ben Falck's kick made it 7-0 just 2 minutes, 23 seconds into the game.
The Wolverines extended their lead on their first drive of the second quarter. Darrell Turner Jr. set up the score, breaking off a 64-yard run, pulled out of bounds at the Citrus 1 by Derrion Warner. Two plays later, Moussa tossed the ball into the front corner of the end zone to Tate Pringle to make it 14-0.
The defense, which had already stopped Citrus at the SBVC 12 in the first quarter, got on the board in the first half. Claude Dent stepped in front of an Ernesto Camacho pass at the Citrus 22 and went untouched into the end zone to make it 20-0.
After a scoreless third period, the Owls got on the board early in the fourth. Austin Zavala threw to the far corner of the end zone, where Caleb Robinson pulled the ball down to make it 20-6. Jess Ybarra blocked the extra point kick to keep it that way.
SBVC went on to score on its next two drives. Kade Greeley ended up on the receiving end of a 5-yard pass from Moussa, then Cobe Stribling pulled in a 22-yard pass to make it 34-6.
Moussa ended the game completing 21 of 39 passes for 309 yards and the five scores (to five different receivers). Eleven different receivers caught passes on the night. Meanwhile, Turner ran for 120 yards on 14 carries.
On the other side, the Wolverines held Citrus to only 258 yards of offense - 69 yards of that came on the game's final play, a 69-yard touchdown pass from Ernesto Camacho to Robinson. SBVC's Death Valley defense had eight sacks and held the Owls to -10 yards rushing.
