A pair of blocked kicks were the difference Saturday afternoon as the San Bernardino Valley College football team lost 14-13 to Citrus College at Citrus.

San Bernardino pulled within a point with 9:38 to go in the game when quarterback Armando Herrera threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Kellen Pachot. But after a penalty pushed the Wolverines back 5 yards, kicker Humberto Ramirez's point-after try to tie the game was blocked by the Owls' Grant Trueman.

The Wolverines (1-2) had appeared to take the lead with 1:14 remaining, as Herrera had scrambled and found the end zone from 30 yards out. But the play was called back by a personal foul penalty, and San Bernardino couldn't get back into the end zone. Faced with a fourth-and-goal from the Citrus 13, San Bernadino Valley was flagged once more for illegal participation, pushing them back 5 yards. Ramirez lined up for a go-ahead 35-yard field goal, but his kick was blocked by Chazz Eldridge, ending the game.

The game was tied at the half, as Micah Lowden pulled in a 17-yard pass from Herrera with 50 seconds left in the opening 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, the SBVC defense was holding the Citrus (1-2) offense. The Wolverines caused three turnovers to set up the offense, which was unable to convert on the short field situations. San Bernardino Valley outgained the Owls 267-262 in the game.

SBVC will be back home at 6 p.m. Saturday evening against Los Angeles Southwest College.
