SBVC Football unloads a season’s worth of frustration onto the Cougars, 48-3

SBVC (1-3) wanted to make a statement Saturday night and they did more than that in demolishing the Los Angeles Southwest Cougars (0-4), 48-3.

The Cougars would take their opening drive and kick a 23 yard field goal, to take an early 3-0 lead and that would be it as SBVC would score 48 unanswered points, dominating on offense, defense and special teams.

In their second drive of the game, LA Southwest coughed up the football to freshman defensive end Kyle Starr (Grand Terrace H.S.) who gladly scooped up the mistake at the Cougars one yard line. Moments later, sophomore running back Obinna Osuji (Norco H.S.) would punch the football in for six points and after a point-after conversion by freshman kicker Humberto Ramirez (Fontana H.S.), SBVC took a 7-3 lead.

Towards the end of the first quarter, the Cougars pooched a terrible punt, only getting 22 yards, that punt was wisely fair caught by sophomore defensive back/punt returner Kionce Roberts (Eastvale Eleanor Roosevelt) at the LA Southwest 35 yard line. On the first SBVC play from scrimmage, freshman quarterback Kendal Williams (Orlando (FL) Colonial) connected with freshman wide receiver Brandin McDowell (Rialto Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower) for a huge 34 yard catch and run, lacing the ball at the Cougars one yard line. On the very next play, freshman running back Christopher Aguila (Redlands H.S.) bowled over the Cougars stacked defensive line for six more points and after a Ramirez extra-point, SBVC led 14-3.

Late in the second quarter, SBVC would bring out the defensive fireworks as freshman defensive back Davondre Jackson (Victorville Victor Valley) snagged a huge interception ending up at the LA Southwest 41 yard line. Then SBVC proceeded to move the ball in their longest possession of the entire season, slugging out 41 yards in 15 plays, totaling 6:10, a brilliant offensive scheme, that confounded the Cougars defense and ended with Williams tossing a fade route to freshman wide receiver Tyrek Adams (Pasadena H.S.) who scampered in seven yards for six points just as time expired in the half. Both teams would go into the break with SBVC up 21-3.

SBVC would receive the opening kick of the second half and on their first play from scrimmage, sophomore wide receiver Blake Fisher (Rancho Cuacmonga H.S.) caught a 42 yard bomb from Williams and darted in for six more points to give SBVC a 28-3 lead.

On their very next possession, SBVC took to the air again as sophomore running back Siddique Newkirk (Seattle (WA) Ballard) took a slot pass in the flat and dashed and spun 72 yards for another SBVC score, giving SBVC a 35-3 lead.
