SBVC Football has a hard time with the Lancers, 26-11

SBVC (0-2) ended their scoreless drought to start the season on a 33 yard field goal and a strong touchdown run, but couldn't get the win, visiting the Pasadena City Lancers (1-1) for the first time since 1991, falling, 26-11.

SBVC collected a superb performance from sophomore wide receiver Demetre Ramos-Davis (Riverside John Wesley North) who grabbed 11 passes for 182 yards, but a run game that couldn't quite get moving, sent the Lancers blitzing on almost every down. The Pasadena City defense accounted for six sacks and five fumbles, harassing the SBVC offense all night.

Freshman quarterback Kendal Williams (Orlando (FL) Colonial) went 13 for 27 tossing for 187 yards and last week's SBVC defensive super star, sophomore defensive lineman Marqueese Royster (Lake Oswego (OR) Lakeridge) didn't disappoint, grabbing 13 total tackles, including four for loss on the night.

Pasadena City scored on a 34 yard field goal with 6:58 left in the first quarter, adding a one yard touchdown run with 8:08 left in the second quarter, to go up 10-0. With 3:01 left in the first half, the Lancers would go on a 6 play, 74 yard drive wrapping up the drive on a 16 yard score, to give the home side a 17-0 lead. And just before the half, Pasadena City put up a 29 yard field goal, to go into the break up, 20-0.

Early in the third quarter, the SBVC quarterback fumbled the ball and a Lancers defensive lineman picked up the fumble and rumbled 78 yards into the end zone, after a missed extra point, Pasadena City led, 26-0.

Then SBVC would score their first points of the 2016 season, when freshman kicker Humberto Ramirez (Fontana H.S.) scored on a 33 yard field goal with 6:58 left in the quarter.

SBVC would break the touchdown drought when they took a 12 play-71 yard drive and freshman running back Devontre Hale (Riverside Poly) dove in from 2 yards out, after a two-point conversion, SBVC was within striking distance with 7:55 left in the game. Unfortunately, SBVC could not sustain any drives the rest of the game.
