SBVC Football once again knocks off the Tartars, 54-6

SBVC (7-1; 4-1) put up almost 600 yards of total offense as they defeated the Compton Tartars (0-8; 0-5) for the 7th straight time, 54-6.

SBVC has scored 117 points in the past two games and only allowed 16 and freshman running back Deion Walker (Matthews (NC) Butler) had his fourth consecutive 100+ yard game, carrying the ball 15 times for 196 yards and 4 scores. He also had 3 catches for 78 yards, including a long of 66, which was for a touchdown, giving Walker 274 all-purpose yards and 5 visits to the end zone. His last carry of the afternoon was after a 26 yard touchdown with 10:02 left in the third quarter.

The SBVC defense was deadly as they imposed terror upon the Compton quarterback all Halloween afternoon, sacking the starter four times and then his replacement once on his first snap. Freshman defensive lineman Andrew Vega (Redlands Citrus Valley) had two sacks totaling a loss of 12 yards and sophomore linebacker Terrance Gaines (San Bernardino Pacific) had 1.5 sacks for a loss of 15 yards.

Freshman offensive lineman Joey Palmer (Thornville (OH) Sheridan) continued to do an admirable job stepping in for injured kicker freshman Alex Raya (Beaumont H.S.), as Palmer went 6 for 7, with his last attempt being blocked.

On the third play of SBVC's first possession, sophomore quarterback Daniel Epperson (Phelan Serrano) connected on one of his longest touchdowns of the year, as he dialed in freshman wide receiver DiAndre Jackson (Seattle (WA) West Seattle) for a 78 yard score with 8:50 left in the first quarter.

On their next possession, SBVC drove the field 91 yards in 9 plays, helped along with a 24 yard catch-and-run by freshman wide receiver Brandy Holmes (Columbia (SC) Irmo) and wrapped up with Walker's first TD on a one yard leap to give SBVC a 14-0 lead.

SBVC would find the end zone again on their third straight possession to start the game as the visitors looked to turn a catch-and-fumble by the Tartars into another seven points. SBVC went 53-yards in 6 plays and capped off the drive with Walker darting and diving in from 12-yards out, to give SBVC an insurmountable 21-0 lead.

Interestingly enough, on their fourth consecutive possession SBVC would score again, taking 2 plays to go 54-yards, with Walker rolling for 33 yards and Epperson connecting with freshman wide receiver Keenan Schneider (Homestead (FL) South Dade) for his first touchdown of the year.

On SBVC's fifth possession they scored again, as Walker carried the ball for 9-yards, then Epperson had an incompletion and then Walker received the call again and carried the ball 42-yards to the end zone for his third score of the first half.

The only thing that kept SBVC from scoring in their sixth consecutive drive was the end of the first half, as both teams departed for their respective locker rooms, SBVC had a commanding lead of 35-0.

As the second half unfolded, SBVC kept on rolling from where they were at in the first half, when the visitors went 73 yards in four plays capped off by Walker's 66 yard score and after a Palmer extra point, SBVC took a 42-0.
