Bill Mierzwik
Head Coach
Office: Gym 328

Bill Mierzwik, 50 is in his 20th year as San Bernardino Valley College’s head baseball coach. Having played for SBVC over 22 years ago under then head coach Steve Smith, he has rejoined a team with a rich tradition of winning.

Mierzwik has continued that tradition in his 20 years at the helm of the program, breaking the record of most win in the history of SBVC formerly held by his coach and mentor Smith.

Mierzwik strives to return to the school many of the things that it gave him when he was a student athlete at SBVC.

As head coach, Mierzwik emphasizes: good baseball fundamentals, the importance of education, self-discipline and playing the game with enthusiasm.

He stresses education and wants his players to leave SBVC with more than just baseball skills to compete at the four-year level. He wants each player to have an academic background to compete and excel academically.

In twenty seasons, Mierzwik has led his teams to 4 conference titles and 3 conference division titles and have played in the postseason 10 times. He has compiled a 472-350-1 record, but he feels his greatest success is getting his sophomores placed at the university level or professional level.

Mierzwik spent his high school days with the Thunderbirds at Yucaipa, where he was a three-year starter as a pitcher. While playing for Yucaipa, he made All-Citrus Belt League and was the Twin-County MVP in 1979. He went on to pitch at SBVC and the University of California, Riverside (UCR) and was on the UCR team in 1982 that won the Division II National Championship.

He coached baseball and football at the varsity level at Yucaipa from 1983-1986. He was head baseball coach and an assistant football coach for the Cowboys at San Bernardino Cajon high school from 1986-1989. He was co-head football coach for the Pirates at San Bernardino Pacific high school for the 1990 season before leaving to coach at SBVC.

Mierzwik received his Associate of Arts degree from SBVC in 1981; he went on to earn his Bachelor in Science in Adaptive Physical Education from the University of Redlands in 1984 and his Masters in Education from Azusa Pacific University in 1985.

Mierzwik continues to teach and coach at San Bernardino Valley College. He and his wife, Diane, and their son, Wesley, live in Cherry Valley, CA.
