Wolverines Find Gold at End of Rainbow

A small amount of rain fell from the sky Tuesday afternoon at San Bernardino Valley College. The SBVC baseball team used the occasion to rain down runs on the visiting Imperial Valley College Arabs.

Derek Bogh led off the game with a towering home run to left field, and the Wolverines scored eight times in the fifth inning as they rolled to a 14-2 victory.

The Wolverines took a 2-0 lead in the first following Bogh's bomb, and then an RBI double Matthew Glover scored Ethan Anderegg. The Arabs answered back in the second inning, but had their rally cut short when the Wolverines executed a perfect relay throw from Bogh to Gage Brandt to catcher Jesse McGonigal to throw out Bryan Garcia at home for the third out of the inning. The trio hooked up again in the third inning to keep the lead.

Peter Roldan had a two-RBI single in the bottom half of third to help extend the lead to 5-1, before the outbreak in the fifth. The Wolverines sent 14 players to the plate in the inning, scoring eight times on only three hits. The Wolverines scored five consecutive runs on bases loaded walks - all with two outs - and a hit batsman. Imperial Valley used four pitchers in the inning.

Meanwhile, starter Thomas Baltazar scattered six hits over six innings of work, allowing only one run. Dylan Borges finished the final three innings, striking out five while only allowing an unearned run to earn the save.

Roldan was 2-for-4 with four RBI for the Wolverines, while Glover was 1-for-3 with three RBI. Jaden Burns was 1-for-3, but had three walks and scored three times, while Brandt walked five times, scoring twice. Anderegg finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. The Wolverines walked 16 times in the game, and had four players reach after being hit by a pitch.
