Big Hits Elude Wolverines in Loss to Victor Valley

The sun finally came out Friday afternoon, allowing San Bernardino Valley College and Victor Valley College to take the field.

And while the sun came out, it wasn't enough to heat up the Wolverines' bats, as SBVC lost 4-2 Friday afternoon.

The Wolverines stranded 11 runners on base Friday afternoon, as they couldn't get the big hit to bring home runs.

Victor Valley jumped out to a lead in the first thanks to a two-out walk. Angel Cano got the free pass from Thomas Baltazar, then went to third on a single from Manuel Sierra. Sierra stole second, and catcher Jesse McGonigal's throw went into centerfield, allowing Cano to take home and Sierra go to third.

The Rams doubled their lead in the third on a similar play. Juan Castaneda doubled and went to third on a bunt single from Bryan Spencer. Spencer took off from first base early and drew a pickoff throw from Baltazar. The Wolverines were able to get Spencer at second, but Castandea stole home to make it 2-0.

SBVC pulled the same play in the bottom half of the third. McGonigal doubled, then went to third on a bunt single from Samuel Pulido. Pulido attempted to steal second, but was thrown out, allowing McGonigal to take home to make it 2-1.

McGonigal ended up the day leading the Wolverines' offense. He was 3-for-4 at the plate with three doubles, a run scored and an RBI.

Baltazar pitched seven innings, striking out six and walking only Cano in the first.
