The San Bernardino Valley College baseball team scored six times over the first three innings as it rolled to a 16-2 victory over Imperial Valley on Thursday at SBVC.
Eight of the Wolverines's 18 hits went for extra bases, as they pounded Imperial Valley starter Jonathan Reyes for six runs on seven hits over the first three innings.
The Wolverines scratched out a run in the first inning, as Jaden Burns opened the scoring, crossing home on a sacrifice fly from Nathanial Sisk. But they broke the game open in the second inning.
Tristian Macias led off getting hit by a pitch, then went to second on a single by Matthew Glover. Adrian Garcia followed with a perfect bunt that he beat out for an infield single to load the bases. Jacob Johnson singled home Macias to make it 2-0, and after Glover was thrown out trying to score on a wild pitch, Jaden Burns blooped a ball into center field that went for a double that scored Garcia and moved Johnson to third. Both runners moved up 90 feet on a balk, and Tyler Van Marter reached on a two-base error that allowed Burns to score, making it 5-0.
Meanwhile, SBVC starter Carlos Sernas was dealing. He gave up one unearned run in seven innings, striking out seven and allowing four hits in the victory. He only walked one.
Several Wolverines had strong days at the plate. Johnson was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and three runs batted in. Garcia was 3-for-3 with two runs scored as well. Designated hitter Creighton Ubides was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, and a pair of RBI on an eighth-inning triple. Sisk was 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
The two teams will finish their three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday at Imperial Valley. The Wolverines will then have a week off before finishing the regular season playing three games against Mt. San Jacinto.
