Wolverines Comeback Too Little, Too Late

San Bernardino Valley scored four times in the final two innings, but the rally came too late, as the Wolverines fell to College of the Desert 15-9 in the rubber game of their three-game series.

Tyler Van Marter was 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored for the Wolverines, with a triple and home run. But both of his big hits came after the Roadrunners took a 15-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning.

The Roadrunners broke open a close game in the fifth. Trailing 3-2, the first seven batters of the inning reached base. Austin Clifton's bases loaded triple gave the Roadrunners the lead for good, and was followed by five more runs in the inning, capped off by a two-run shot from Nick Follett.

SBVC had taken the lead with individual runs in the second, third and fourth innings. Tristian Macias tripled home Creighton Ubides with the go-ahead run in the fourth, and was thrown out trying to stretch his blast into an inside the park home run.

Jacob Johnson was 4-for-5 for the Wolverines, with two runs scored and an RBI. Macias ended the day with two RBI on a 1-for-4 day at the plate.
