College of the Desert sent 15 men to the plate in a 10-run seventh inning as the Roadrunners broke open a tight game to roll to an 11-4 win in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference baseball game Tuesday at SBVC.
The Wolverines entered the inning with a 2-1 lead, as starting pitcher Dylan Borges had struck out five through six innings, and only allowed four hits. But the seventh was his undoing. With one out, Nathaniel Lopez doubled, then went to third on a single by Austin Clifton. Julian Gonzalez laid down a bunt on a safety squeeze play, scoring Lopez as Borges tried to go home with the play, flipping the ball to the backstop, allowing Clifton and Gonzalez to move to second and third. A wild pickoff throw allowed Clifton to score, then Matthew Hernandez singled home Gonzalez, ending the day for Borges.
SBVC had taken a 2-1 lead in the third inning, as Adrian Garcia led off getting hit by a pitch. He stole second and went to third when Jaden Burns bloop turned into a double. Jacob Johnson grounded out to second, scoring Garcia, and, one out later, Burns scored on a single by Jason Lopez.
Garcia was 2-for-2 at the plate, scoring twice for the Wolverines. Johnson was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Before the game, the Wolverines honored Autism Awareness Month by having Emilio Sola, the austitic son of trainer Michael Sola, throw out the first pitch surrounded by the entire team.
