Wolverines Walk Off With Win Over Palomar

Joshua Torrance's high chop single behind the mound drove home Tyler Van Marter with the winning run in the ninth inning as San Bernardino Valley's baseball team pulled out an 8-7 win over Palomar on Tuesday.

The Wolverines led 7-3 to start the ninth, but the Comets rallied for four runs in the top half of the frame, tying the game.

In the bottom half of the inning, Tyler Van Marter singled to center with one out, and Jason Lopez followed with a single off the glove of pitcher Everhett Hazelwood. Giovanni Daniel came in to run for Lopez, and he and Van Marter moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch. After Tristen Macias struck out, Nathaniel Sisk worked a walk to load the bases. With two strikes, Torrance chopped the ball high over Hazelwood, with the ball landing behind the mound. Torrance beat the throw to win the game.

Before thedrama of the ninth, the Wolverines took a 4-2 lead in the second inning. Sisk led off the inning with a double and Torrance walked. Sisk was erased on a bunt attempt by Raymond Andrade. Both runners moved up a balk, and Torrance scored when Adrian Garcia reached on a fielder's choice. Jaden Burns followed with a double to score Andrade and Jacob Johnson tripled down the right field line to clear the bases.

The Wolverines expanded their lead in the fifth when Van Marter blasted the ball over the tape in left field for a homer.

Van Marter was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs for the Wolverines, while Burns was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Johnson was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Creighton Ubides got the win, getting the final two outs in the ninth.
