Big Hit Launches Big Inning in Wolverines' Win

Jacob Johnson's bases clearing triple in the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie and started an eight-run barrage as the San Bernardino Valley College baseball team defeated San Diego City 11-5 Tuesday at SBVC.

The Wolverines had taken a 4-1 lead in the second inning as Adrian Garcia doubled home two runs in between two unearned runs, including Garcia hitting the plate after stealing third and scoring on a throwing error.

But the Knights scored three times in the third to tie the game, setting up the Wolverines' big rally in the seventh.

Jason Lopez opened the inning with a single, ending the day for San Diego City starter Jake Lipetzky. Baker Springstun came in and walked Tristen Macias and Nathaniel Sisk on nine pitches before he gave way to Anthony Pizzo.

With the bases full, Johnson blasted the first pitch he saw from Pizzo over center fielder Matt Bagdasar's head into the deepest part of the ball park, clearing the bases.

The Wolverines added five more runs in the inning, as they sent 13 men to the plate in the inning, getting six hits – two of those from Lopez, who added an RBI double to go with two runs scored in the inning.

SBVC pushed its attack throughout the game, as they stole eight bases in the game in 10 attempts, and Jaden Burns scored on a wild pitch as well. They also worked 11 walks from Knights' pitchers.

Wolverines' starter Edgardo Gonzalez pitched seven innings, striking out six, while giving up 10 hits and four runs.

The two teams continue their three-game series Thursday at San Diego City, then conclude it at noon Saturday back at SBVC.
