2016 Season in Review - Baseball

Baseball head coach Bill Mierzwik surpassed the 600 win milestone after leading SBVC to a 19 win season. His team produced four First Team All-Foothill Conference selections and five Second Team All-Foothill Conference selections.

The team finished the 2016 season with record of 19-16-1, had a 9-7 record on the road and a 9-7-1 record at home. Between March 5th and March 29th, SBVC had won nine of their ten games, which included a sweep of Foothill Conference rivals Cerro Coso, and a win at Chaffey.

Named first team All-Foothill Conference was sophomore shortstop Gerardo Torreblanca (Fontana H.S.) who finished with a batting average of .418 with 66 hits, good enough for 2nd in the state. He was the state leader in extra base hits, excluding homeruns, bringing in 16 doubles and 3 triples for a grand total of 19. Torreblanca led SBVC with 38 runs scored and had 32 RBI's.

Also named first team All-Foothill Conference was sophomore starting pitcher Tyler Penix (Highland Citrus Valley). He finished the season with a 7-2 record in 11 starts with a 3.36 ERA. Penix best game of the season came at Cerro Coso on March 22nd, going eight innings with five strikeouts and only one earned run.

Also named first team All-Foothill Conference was sophomore designated hitter Jordan Babbitt (Highland Citrus Valley). He played in 26 games and totaled a .397 batting average with 18 RBI's. Babbitt's best game came at home against Barstow on April 21st, where he went 3 for 5 including a double, 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored.

Also named first team All-Foothill Conference was sophomore utility Breion Barron (Hemet Tahquitz). As a batter, he finished 9th in conference in doubles with 11 and finished the season with a .287 batting average and a .461 slugging percentage. Barron's best game this season was at home against Victor Valley in which he went 2 for 4 with a homerun and 3 RBI's.

Named to the second team All-Foothill Conference was freshman right handed starting pitcher Chris Rocco (Fontana Jurupa Hills). Rocco was the number two starter for SBVC this season, in 10 appearances, all being starts; he struck out 48 batters in 65 innings pitched, going 5-4 with a 3.44 ERA.

Also named to the second team All-Foothill Conference was sophomore first baseman Anthony Aguila (Redlands H.S.). Agulia played in 34 games for SBVC in which he had a .323 batting average with 3 homeruns and 31 runs scored.

Named to the second team All-Foothill Conference was sophomore third baseman David Osuna (Fontana Henry J. Kaiser). Osuna finished conference play with a .337 batting average and a .484 slugging percentage, collecting 32 hits.

Also named second team All-Foothill Conference was sophomore right fielder Jesus Gonzalez (Rialto W.A. Carter). Gonzalez finished the season with a .320 batting average and a .346 on base percentage, collecting 24 hits with 8 doubles.

Also named second team All-Foothill Conference was freshman centerfielder Billy Reyes (Yucaipa H.S.). Reyes finished the season with a .346 batting average and a .442 on base percentage, collecting 54 hits and 16 walks.
