SBVC Baseball clobbers 2 homers in win over Rams, 4-1

SBVC (17-11-1; 12-5) continues to grab victories, launching two home runs and collecting a complete game performance out of their starting pitcher, sending the Victorville Victor Valley Rams (1-27; 0-17) to their 23rd straight loss, 4-1.

Victor Valley would open up the scoring in the top of the first and after an SBVC fielding error scored the lone Rams run, freshman right handed starting pitcher Chris Rocco (4-3) (Fontana Jurupa Hills) buckled down and shut down the visitors for the rest of the game. Rocco tossed nine complete, surrendering a run, unearned, on five hits, walking one and striking out seven on a rainy afternoon.

SBVC would tie the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second, when sophomore first baseman Anthony Aguila (Redlands H.S.) led off the inning by crushing his second home run of the season into the net in left.

SBVC would take the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth when Aguila led off the inning with a single to center and after reaching second on a one out wild pitch, Aguila would come around to score on a double to left by sophomore designated hitter Breion Barron (Hemet Tahquitz), giving SBVC a 2-1 lead.

SBVC added some key insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth when sophomore short stop Gerardo Torreblanca (Fontana H.S.) led off the inning with a single to left, advancing to second on a two out wild pitch, then Barron punished a home run to left giving SBVC a 4-1 lead.

Barron went 2 for 4 with a run scored and three runs batted in and Aguila went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Freshman center fielder Billy Reyes (Yucaipa H.S.) went 2 for 4 and Torreblanca went 2 for 4 with a run scored in the win.
