San Bernardino Valley College Baseball will honor World Autism Awareness Day this Saturday at noon, with a ceremonial first pitch being tossed out by the son of SBVC head athletic trainer, Mike Sola. Sola's son, Emilio Sola, who turns 16 this year, is afflicted with autism.

World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognized day on the 2nd of April every year and Sola, a 34-year teacher of Sports Medicine at SBVC threw out the ceremonial first pitch to begin the 2016 season on January 28th.

SBVC is looking to split the season series with the Whittier Rio Hondo Roadrunners on Saturday, losing the first game of the series at Rio Hondo, back on March 3rd by a score of 7-2, but tying the series at home on March 29th, 5-4 in 12 innings. On Thursday, March 31st at Rio Hondo, the Roadrunners grabbed the victory 16-6.

Expectations are high for SBVC Baseball this season, after their third consecutive Conference Championship; SBVC is looking to get back into the post-season and is expected to compete with perennial Foothill Conference powerhouses Whittier Rio Hondo and Rancho Cucamonga Chaffey. Next season SBVC will move into the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference with Palomar, Southwestern, Grossmont, San Diego Mesa, Desert, Mt. San Jacinto, San Diego City and Imperial Valley.
