SBVC Baseball struggles to chase down the Roadrunners, 12-2

SBVC (11-9-1; 6-3) had a rough 7th inning and could not get any runs on the board until the bottom of the 9th, increasing the log jam atop the Foothill Conference, falling to the Palm Desert College of the Desert Roadrunners (5-14; 3-6), 12-2.

Sophomore right handed starting pitcher Mason Jandro (1-2) (Corona Centennial) got through five innings, surrendering three earned, on six hits, walking two and striking out four and then the bullpen struggled mightily to contain the Desert onslaught. Five different pitchers would combine to finish the game, giving up nine earned, on 10 hits walking three and striking out two.

The Roadrunners would open up the scoring in the top of the third, taking a 2-0 lead and add another run in the top half of the sixth, to make the score 3-0.  The visitors would bust the game open in the top of the seventh, led by a 3-run home run to left, scoring six runs and making the score 9-0. Desert would add another run in the top of the eighth and two more in the top of the ninth, making the score 12-0.

Attempting to complete the game, the Roadrunners starting pitcher grabbed the pitching rubber for the bottom of the ninth, where SBVC was able to knock the unhittable starter around a bit.

In the bottom of the ninth, sophomore short stop Gerardo Torreblanca (Fontana H.S.) clobbered a one out infield single and sophomore right fielder Breion Barron (Hemet Tahquitz) brought him home on a two out double to left field. Sophomore designated hitter Jordan Babbitt (Highland Citrus Valley) would plate Barron with a single to left field to end the scoring for SBVC.

Babbitt had a fantastic day at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a run batted in and Barron went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI on the afternoon.
