SBVC Baseball outlasts the Roadrunners, 6-2

Don't look now, but SBVC (10-8-1; 5-2) has rattled off a four game winning streak and looking for more as they used a big 7th inning to knock off the Palm Desert College of the Desert Roadrunners (4-13; 2-5), 6-2.

SBVC pitching was dominant, as freshman right handed starting pitcher (1-2) Vincent Flores (Rialto H.S.) tossed a gem in five and a third innings, surrendering an earned run on six hits, walking two and striking out one, to grab his first win of the year. Freshman right handed relief pitcher Jessy Fuerte (Bloomington H.S.) was dealing as well, throwing three and a third innings, giving up an earned run on four hits, walking one and striking out six. And freshman right handed relief pitcher Chris Hammond (Redlands H.S.) went "Uno-Dos-Audios" striking out the side against the only batter he faced on three pitches to close out the win.

The Roadrunners would open up the scoring in the top of the fifth with the leadoff batter singling to center and then coming home on a one out single to center. SBVC would answer in the bottom of the sixth when freshman center fielder Billy Reyes (Yucaipa H.S.) grabbed a leadoff walk and reached second on a one out single to left by sophomore first baseman Anthony Aguila (Redlands H.S.). Sophomore designated hitter Breion Barron (Hemet Tahquitz) would bring Reyes home on a on a fielding error by the Desert short stop, tying the score at 1-1.

SBVC would bust the game wide open in the bottom of the seventh, as they plated five runs. Freshman second baseman Anthony Lee (Menifee Paloma Valley) led off the inning with a walk, which chased the Roadrunners starter, then freshman left fielder and leadoff hitter, Aaron Gamez (Riverside La Sierra) hit a double to left, scoring Lee, giving SBVC the lead for good. Reyes would walk, then sophomore short stop Gerardo Torreblanca (Fontana H.S.) would walk the bases full, only to have Aguila collect a bases loaded walk to bring in another SBVC run. The score would chase another Roadrunners pitcher, then Barron clobbered a double to center, scoring two more runs and sophomore third baseman David Osuna (Fontana Henry J. Kaiser) would hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score the runner from third. In the end, SBVC would lead 6-1.

Desert would score a run in the top of the ninth, but SBVC would take the game.

Gamez went 3 for 5 with a run scored and a run batted in and Aguila went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI on the afternoon. Freshman catcher Ryan Maestas (Rialto W.A. Carter) went 2 for 4 and Barron went 1 for 3 with two RBI's.
