SBVC (5-3-1) attempted to get things started, but found themselves in a large deficit early as they fell to the Torrance El Camino Warriors (4-3), 10-5.
The Warriors came out swinging and added a run in the top of the first and the top of the second, to give El Camino an early 2-0 advantage, but SBVC was not going to take this game laying down as they halved the score in the bottom of the second.
Sophomore third baseman David Osuna (Fontana Henry J. Kaiser) would punish a one out triple to center, which was immediately followed by a double to center from freshman catcher Mike Quinonez (San Bernardino Cajon), making the score 2-1.
El Camino would add two more runs in the fourth on an inside the park home run and two more in the sixth on a home run to right-center to make the score, 6-1. The Warriors would tack on four more runs in the top of the eighth for a 10-1 lead, but SBVC would not yield quietly as they added two runs in the eighth.
In the bottom of the eighth, SBVC leadoff batter freshman left fielder Aaron Gamez (Riverside La Sierra) hit a one out double to left and then freshman center fielder Billy Reyes (Yucaipa H.S.) traded places with him, hitting back-to-back doubles, scoring Gamez. "Double Double!" Sophomore pinch hitter Jordan Babbitt (Highland Citrus Valley) would poke a two out single to center, scoring Reyes from second, making the score 10-3.
There is one outstanding rule in Community College Baseball, "Expect The Unexpected" and SBVC, although down seven runs, did not quit and fought to the end. Freshman catcher Ryan Maestas (Rialto W.A. Carter) led off the inning with a walk then reached third on a single from sophomore second baseman Ryan Redford (Corona Centennial). Maestas would dart home on a Gamez single to center and sophomore short stop Gerardo Torreblanca (Fontana H.S.) would take a one out hit by pitch. Redford would eventually cross home plate on a fielder's choice by Babbitt, but that would be all for SBVC on the afternoon.
Gamez went 2 for 5 with a run scored and a run batted in and Torreblanca would go 2 for 5 in the game. Sophomore first baseman Anthony Aguila (Redlands H.S.) went 2 for 3 and Osuna went 2 for 5 with a run scored on the day.
