SBVC Baseball adds four more awards

SBVC Baseball continues to add hardware to their list as they included two All-State and All-Southern California players.

A complete list of honorees can be found HERE

Sophomore right handed starting pitcher Nick Przybylek (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.) and sophomore first baseman Aaron Cisneros (San Bernardino H.S.) were named to the Southern California All-State Team and freshman second baseman Jonathan McCray (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.) and freshman right fielder Austin Berglund (Etiwanda H.S.) were named to the All-Southern California Team.

Cisneros, already named to the ABCA/PAD 3rd Team All-American, also collected the Big Stick Award for the Southern California All-State Team, handed out to the best all-around hitter in California.

On the field, Przybylek (pronounced Pree-Blick) made the leap forward from first team All-Foothill Conference in 2014 to Foothill Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2015, increasing his innings pitched and dropping his ERA. In 13 starts, he struck out 57 batters in 92.0 innings pitched, going 8-2 with a 1.71 ERA. Przybylek finished the regular season with a 6.00 strikeouts per game average and tossing four complete games. He had his consecutive scoreless innings streak snapped at 30 2/3 innings in the top of the 8th on April 7th at home versus the Palm Desert College of the Desert Roadrunners. An impressive feat accomplished with the help of his catcher, Christian Fillingame, and the defensive arrangement behind him. It is presumed that the innings streak is a school record, but that has yet to be confirmed, either way, the mound presence of Przybylek has got to put him rarefied company in SBVC history. Przybylek will be joining Campbellsville University in the fall.

Also named first team All-Foothill Conference, in back-to-back years, was sophomore first baseman Aaron Cisneros (San Bernardino H.S.). As a batter, he finished first in the state in home runs with 11 and grabbed 31 walks. Cisneros finished second in the state with a .735 slugging percentage, finishing the season with a .349 batting average and a .504 on base percentage, collecting 45 hits and 40 RBI's. As first baseman, he finished with a Fielding Percentage of .994 with 279 put outs, while turning 27 double plays. Cisneros will be joining the University of California, Riverside in the fall.

Also named first team All-Foothill Conference was freshman second baseman Jonathan McCray (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.). As a batter, he finished tenth in the State in RBI's with 40 and 11th in home runs with 5. McCray finished the season with a .383 batting average and a .450 on base percentage, collecting 50 hits. As second baseman, he finished with a Fielding Percentage of .981 with 77 put outs, while turning 23 double plays. McCray was selected as the 729th overall selection by the Kansas City Royals in the 24th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft on June 10.

Also named first team All-Foothill Conference was freshman right fielder Austin Berglund (Etiwanda H.S.). As a batter, he finished 11th in the State in stolen bases with 22 and finished the season with a .367 batting average and a .453 on base percentage, collecting 45 hits. As an outfielder, he finished with a Fielding Percentage of .986 with 92 put outs.

Baseball head coach Bill Mierzwik was named as the winner the Foothill Conference Coach of the Year award. An award bestowed upon Mierzwik after guiding SBVC to their third straight Conference Championship, approaching a historic coaching milestone by capturing his 593rd coaching victory. Six players were named first team All-Conference.

The team finished the 2015 season with record of 23-15, had an 11-6 record on the road and an 11-7 record at home. Between March 10th and April 14th, SBVC had won 13 straight games, which included sweeps over Foothill Conference rivals Barstow, Cerro Coso, Victor Valley and College of the Desert, along with series wins over Chaffey and Rio Hondo. Interestingly enough, the entire starting outfield and all three starting pitchers for SBVC were named All-Foothill Conference.
