UPDATE: CCCAA Cancels All Spring Sports

UPDATE: CCCAA Cancels All Spring Sports

UPDATE (March 19):

The California Community College Athletic Association has canceled the remainder of the spring sports schedule due to concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 virus, commonly known as the Coronavirus.

This action ends the seasons for four sport teams at San Bernardino Valley College - baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field.

The CCCAA has ruled that all nontraditional season practices or meetings - outside of regularly scheduled class times - are canceled until June 30, 2020.

San Bernardino Valley College is currently on its regularly scheduled spring break, and will resume virtual class activities on March 29, with only a limited amount of class activity remaining on campus. There will be no practices or sporting activities on the campus until the end of the spring semester at the earliest.

Athletes who participated in spring sports will have their eligibility season restored for CCCAA purposes only at this time, as the governing board will continue working with the NCAA, NAIA and other organizations for athletes who plan to transfer. Athletes who quit or were cut before the season was suspended will not be eligible under this plan.

The California Community College Athletic Association Board of Directors voted March 12 to postpone all spring sporting events indefinitely out of concern over the spread of the COVID-19 virus, commonly known as the Coronavirus.

The action will affect athletes in four sports at San Bernardino Valley College - baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field. All athletic activity, outside of regularly scheduled class times, will be cancelled for the time being.

CCCAA Interim Executive Director Jennifer Cardone said in a statement: "We regret the effect this has on our outstanding student-athletes and the hard work and dedication they've invested in their seasons. However, we feel it's in the best interest of our student-athletes to take this action."

According to the release, the CCCAA will be working to minimize the affect this postponement has on athlete eligibility at the two- and four-year level.
