LANCASTER - After not scoring a run in its first game of the season, the Marauder softball bats have come to life.
In a big way.
On Tuesday, AVC scored seven runs in an easy victory against highly-touted and state runner-up, Mt. SAC. The Marauders took that momentum into Friday afternoon's game against visiting San Bernardino and there were no signs of a letup.
AVC pounded out 16 hits, including two home runs, and scored 21 runs in a convincing 21-1 win against the Wolverines at Marauder Stadium.
Taylor Roberts started the game and picked up the win for the Marauders (2-1) as she pitched three scoreless inning without allowing a hit and retiring every batter she faced. Roberts also helped herself out at the plate finishing the game 2-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. Designated player Ashley Fiorelli was 3-for-3 with a grand slam, four RBI and two runs scored. Five players had multiple hits for AVC.
Nine players in the AVC lineup had at least one RBI or more. Already with a comfortable 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third inning, the Marauders exploded for 11 runs extending their lead to 15-0. AVC pitching only allowed three hits and the game was called due to the mercy rule after the top half of the fifth inning.
The Marauders travel to Cypress on Saturday and will face Bakersfield and defending state-champion Cypress in a double header.
