SAN BERNARDINO - At least Marauder softball head coach Cindy Vargas didn't have to stress to set the school record for career coaching victories.
The Marauders defeated an old foe, San Bernardino Valley College, easily 10-0, Friday afternoon in San Bernardino.
"We faced very good pitching and hit the ball very well," said the humble Vargas, who doesn't speak much about her accolades. "Krystan (Cook) did a great job hitting her spots and keeping them off balance."
Vargas is now 377-196-3 in her career at AVC, surpassing the old record set by Gene Pagliaro. Pagliaro finished his illustrious career for the Marauders with a 376-194 record.
Cook pitched all five innings allowing only three hits, while striking out thre.
Valerie Dorantes provided the offensive spark for the Marauders as she hit a grand slam. Paige Johnson added a bases clearing double as well.
