Men's, Women's Soccer Players Earn Top Honors

Three San Bernardino Valley College soccer players earned All-State honors as voted on by members of the California Community College Soccer Coaches Association.

Sophomore forward Fred Zaragoza (Thermal Desert Mirage) was named to the men’s team. Zaragoza led the Wolverines with 13 goals and four assists on the season.

The women’s team placed two players. Sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Carreon (San Bernardino Cajon) appeared in 20 games, starting 14, allowing only four goals and notching 53 saves. Sophomore midfielder Jordan Steele (Tahquitz) scored six goals and had two assists while controlling the midfield for the Wolverines.

Both teams played three players on the all-Region teams.

Zaragoza led the Wolverines on the all-region team. He was joined by freshman defender Jorge Moreno (Riverside Martin Luther King Jr.) and sophomore forward Tony Vallejo (Moreno Valley Valley View). Moreno had three assists while solidifying the Wolverines’ back line, and Vallejo tied for the team lead with 10 assists while adding 11 goals.

For the women’s team, joining Steele and Carreon was defender Jordyn DeJongh. The sophomore from Redlands Citrus Valley scored two goals and had one assist while serving mostly in a central defender/sweeper role for the Wolverines.
